Wave damping effects of screens -- Hydraulic model investigation
Expression is derived for damping of translation waves by screen filters in terms of filter extent and length of wave; derivation involves resistance coefficient of screens; tests show that this term cannot be derived from known resistance law of circular cylinders but must be determined for particular screen for condition of steady flow; observed damping and computed damping agree fairly well; results are extended intuitively to case of surface waves; analysis is compared with Goda-Ippen theory of screen filters to establish conditions for equivalency of results in these two approaches.
