Influence of flocculation in removal of up to micron sized mineral and biological particles led to study of defined velocity gradient flocculator; design desiderata are outlined and theoretical basis is given; coaxial cylinder, Couette device developed is described and its hydraulic testing discussed; flow-flow patterns observed in flocculation tests with quartzite particles and alum are described.
