City tunnels described are part of water supply system in Metropolitan Boston, are ranging in depth from 233 to 446 ft beneath ground surface, and are entirely in bedrock; inner diameter of concrete lining of main tunnel is 12 ft, that of branch tunnel is 10 ft; tunnel is entirely in Boston Bay Group, except for some mafic (diabasic) dike rocks; 109 mafic (diabase) dikes were recorded; with few exceptions they dip steeply, but strikes were not recorded; width averages about 5 ft.
