Soil-cement pipe bedding -- Canadian river aqueduct
Approximately 320 mi of pipe line on Canadian River Aqueduct were bedded with plastic soil-cement backfill; pipe was set in semicircular trench slightly larger than pipe and annular space was filled with plastic soil-cement; bedding provides direct transfer of pipe load to undisturbed foundation material; soil-cement consisted of 2 to 2 1/2 sacks of cement per cubic yard of sand mixed with sufficient water to make it pumpable; record compressive strength tests and laboratory tests were conducted to determine general properties; full-sized test section showed performance of bedding to be satisfactory during period of drying.
