Review is made of open-cut construction methods with particular attention given to well-known Berlin method, Hamburg method, and newly introduced Milano method; latter consists in erecting two side walls by means of slurry wall technique, soil excavation to tunnel roof level, concreting of tunnel roof, filling of excavation and reconstruction of street, soil excavating underneath tunnel roof, and concreting tunnel bottom, mainly in form of inverted arches; another method involving least traffic interruption and using bored piles for construction of tunnel walls is briefly explained.
