Influence of shape of flood hydrograph upon spillway capacity
Shape of hydrograph is of importance in design of large reservoir spillways; method shows how recorded floods have been used to select critical shape of flood hydrograph and capacity of permanent installation required for control of river flows at Outardes 4 project in Quebec, Canada; series of design flood hydrographs has been obtained by escalating recorded floods to 10,000 yr peak level; by using series it was possible to study influence of shape upon capacity of spillway and to determine principles for optimum design in accordance with safety standards.
