Influence of consolidation pressure on plasticity and undrained shear strength of quick clay
Extracted samples from various depths were subjected to consolidation pressures from 1 to 10 times in-situ overburden pressure; after consolidation was completed plasticity and undrained shear strength were measured for comparison with initial values; plasticity was almost unaltered after increasing consolidation, possibly because clay is leached; shear strength increases almost linearly with applied consolidation pressure, corresponding to decrease in water content; for increasing consolidation ratios sensitivity decreased, particularly for water content reduction of 5 to 10%.
