Sixty papers presented are grouped in five categories -- physical and chemical properties of soils, including both field and laboratory investigations; shallow foundations, pile foundations, and deep foundations without piles; earth and rockfill dams and other earth structures, highways and airports, and open excavations; earth pressure, sheet piling, and retaining walls; and research and educational activities, including development of curricula; intensive five-day course of instruction was offered covering following subjects -- behavior of saturated clays; behavior of granular soils; properties of nonsaturated soils; design criteria for foundations; earth dams -- geological aspects and design criteria; most of papers are in English, remainder in Spanish, with summaries in both languages.
