Improvement in design of cable suspension bridges
To reduce secondary stresses at tower saddles, author proposes (1) changing round or hectagonal cross-section of cable to wide rectangular one, and (2) resting saddle on roller hinge to make it independent of tower deflections; by mathematical analysis and numerical example demonstrates that secondary stresses may thus be reduced to 1/20.
