Does it make sense from hygienic point of view to extend sludge digestion time in septic tanks
To determine bacteria endurance, two series of experiments with six types of salmonella strains were carried out, one series in heated septic tank, and other in unheated tank; in heated tank, no bacteria were evident after 30 days; in unheated tank, bacteria could resist effect of alkaline anaerobic digestion for 11 mo; based on these results, it is not recommended to extend digestion time.
