Triaxial tests on salt rocks
Triaxial tests on various salt rocks were conducted, and Mohr's envelope of stress determined, as preliminary measure before determining necessary dimensions of pillars in salt mines and assessing liability of salt to possible rockburst; stress-deformation characteristics of different salt rocks were found to vary considerably; it is unwise to attribute general behavior to all salt deposits; salt designated as carnallitite behaved substantially elastically and displayed brittle fracture under confining pressures up to at least 100 kpond/sq cm; it appears that salt rocks of carnallitic class have greater liability to rockburst than other salts tested.
