Tests on light gage steel diaphragms
Eleven static load tests were conducted on 22 gage narrow rib roof decks to investigate effect of length of diaphragms, type of welding, and diaphragm material tensile properties on shear stiffness and strength of diaphragm; behavior of diaphragm under reversed load at 0.4 × and 0.6 × ultimate static loads was explored by conducting five tests; three static load tests were performed on corrugated diaphragms to formulate strength of diaphragm without intermediate fasteners as function of its thickness; 5 cycles of reversed load at plus or minus 0.6 × ultimate load of identical diaphragm under static load resulted in maximum reduction of 25% in strength of diaphragm.
