Rock penetration at oblique incidence by yawed bit tooth
Idealizing rock to be plastic, two dimensional plane strain problem of indentation by rigid yawed wedge at oblique incidence is solved using Hill-type solution; yield is governed by Mohr Coulomb criteria; theory takes into account lip formed around tooth during indentation and predicts wedge-shaped cap of dead rock under bit tooth for sufficiently large wedge angles and sufficiently large coefficient of friction.
