Pavement thickness measurement using ultrasonic pulses
Pulse-echo type of ultrasonic pavement thickness measuring system is described; system's performance on newly constructed concrete pavements is reviewed; thickness measurements are based on ultrasonic pulse transit time measurements in pavements of known sound velocity; accuracies of plus or minus 2% in better than half of measurements taken were obtained during testing program involving more than 350 measurements; results were verified by core measurements made by testing laboratory of Ohio Dept of Highways.
