In designing Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal, Port of New York Authority took into account possible future demands of containerization, and have amended their plans as work on terminal has progressed, to fit in with current trends; this article describes terminal as it will be on completion in 1975, and discusses engineering work in this 175 million dollar development; marshland was preloaded for construction of port with subsequent erection of high-level platforms supported on bearing piles or caissons, relieving platforms supported on bearing piles, straight-wall steel sheet pile bulkheads, cellular steel sheet pile bulkheads, and concrete crib construction.
