Tungsten steel melted in open hearth furnace using aluminothermal scheelite briquets
In view of small amount of experience of melting mild steels alloyed with tungsten, 3 methods of alloying were tried namely with standard ferrotungsten, with chromium tungsten alloy and using aluminothermal scheelite briquets; in production of 35KhG2SV steel for high strength drill tubes, use of aluminothermal scheelite briquets was found to be most effective method.
