Spillway for John Redmond dam grand (Neosho) river, Kansas -- Hydraulic model investigation
664-ft long spillway will consist of low ogee weir surmounted by 14 tainter gates, sloping chute, and hydraulic jump-type stilling basin; models of spillway were used to study flow in curved approach channel, over weir, and in stilling basin and exit channel; to obtain desired spillway capacity, approach channel was deepened 15 ft for 200 ft upstream of weir, weir profile was revised, and stub dike was installed at right abutment; satisfactory stilling basin was developed at desired elevation, consisting of 141-ft long horizontal apron with 2 rows of baffles and end sill.
