New facilities at Garston, England, include new sound acoustics laboratories designed to investigate overcoming apparent weight dependence of sound insulation; anechoic chamber with interior surfaces covered by 22,000 expanded polyurethane wedges, 4-ft long on 8-in. cube base, is largest known in Europe; adjacent room is reverberant with nonparallel reflecting surfaces; rotatable wall laboratory mounted on rollers over circular track for studies of heating and ventilating, and room with artificial sky for study of daylight in buildings, are also described.
