Procedures used at Parkside Colliery, Lancashire, in sinking of 2 24-ft diam shafts to depths of 2660 ft; shafts were mass concrete-lined throughout, steel tubbing being used as shuttering for concrete; high speed sinking methods featured 3-deck scaffold with underslung cactus grab and complete mechanization; problems of surveying, driving of tunnel between shafts, equipping of shaft, and construction of Koepe hoisting towers. (See also - n 5329 May 30 1963 p 649-54)
