Self-propelled machine developed at Road Research Laboratory which spreads chippings over width of 12 ft at one pass at preset rate of spread; coated chippings are rolled into surface of rolled asphalt to give non-skid texture; machine runs on pneumatic tired wheels on hard surfaces outside newly laid asphalt; fluted rotors, which are geared to road wheels, deliver metered flow of chippings to road, that is unaffected by variations in speed of travel of machine.
