Procedure for use in slope deflection and moment distribution methods of analysis when joints of rigid frame are free to translate makes use of imaginary internal ties; in moment distribution these ties may be considered as restraints which prevent joint translation during balancing of moments; versatility of moment distribution and slope deflection is retained or enhanced.
