Bridge was designed of standard railway construction known as Cooper's E 50 loading plus 100 lb. per sq. ft. for roadway allowance; subsequently increased to 15-ton truck gross loadings; total length is 1 1/4 miles; structure comprises one fixed span of 300 ft.; three fixed spans of 150 ft., and bascule lifting span of 185 ft. in length.
