Developments in thickness design of asphalt pavements
Criteria and methods of design used in past two decades are reviewed; improved reliability in evaluation of traffic, subgrade strength material properties, and environment are discussed; advantages and disadvantages of empirical and theoretical design systems are outlined and thickness design systems which make use of both concepts discussed; formula suggested by Hveem and Carmany is analyzed.
