Effects of pressure and fluid saturation on attenuation of elastic waves in sands
Velocity and attenuation of elastic waves in sandstones were measured as function of both pressure and fluid saturation; large change occurs in these quantities if water is added and rock is not compressed, but change is small if rock is subjected to large overburden pressure; formulas enable attenuation of dilatational waves in dry rocks to be deduced; similar experimental methods were used to investigate properties of unconsolidated sands; formulas by which effects produced by jacket around sample may be calculated were derived.
