Description of novel methods used in construction of 42nd Street station on 8th Avenue subway, which will be 1215 ft. long and 100 ft. wide and will have three levels; by-pass; underpining methods; compressors installed in basement; earth and rock excavation; tearing up of sidewalks; push cars used; special bracing required; details of decking; placing concrete; restoration of subsurface structures.
