Stresses in electrodeposited metals have previously been observed as contraction; by means of new sensitive method, it is possible to trace manifestations of these stresses as dilatation due to expansion of surface of deposit as opposed to underlying metal. (see also brief translated abstract in Inst. Metals -- Jl., vol. 47, pt. 9, Sept. 1931, pp. 471-472)
