Building a brick-faced concrete-arch dam
Caneadea dam of Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation on Caneadea Creek at junction with Genesee River is constant-angle arch, 140 ft. above streambed, maximum radius 262 ft.; total length 440 ft.; maximum bottom thickness of 44 ft. tapers to 5 ft. near top; spillway is 60 ft. wide, 20 ft. deep; is fully controlled by two all-steel electrically operated vertical sluice gates 20 by 20 ft.; arch faced with 4-in. vitrified paving brick on both sides; plant layout, excavation and stream control; cold-weather precautions.
