Tests proved adequacy of requirements in German standards, which consider such columns fire resistant if they are minimum 20 cm thick and are covered with wire mesh embedded in cement-lime mortar, or if they are minimum 30 cm thick and have compressive strength of 225 kg/ sq cm.
