Results of numerical calculations for motion of bore over uniformly sloping beach; results compared with approximate formula given by G. B.WHITMAN, (J Fluid Mechanics v 4 1958 p 337-60) and close agreement was found; approximate theory considered further with addition of rigorous proof that, within shallow water theory, height of bore tends to zero at shoreline.
