Influence of arsenic on carbon and alloy structural steels
Presence of up to 0.30% arsenic has no substantial influence on mechanical properties of steel; however, it increases anisotropy, reduces hardenability, accelerates transformation of austenite, and increases susceptibility of steel to temper brittleness; during nitriding, arsenic hampers saturation of steel with nitrogen. (See also Stal v 20 n 7 July 1960 p 637-42)
