Well points win dewatering battle in sewer tunnel
1800 ft long 5 ft diam tunnel, and 36 in. diam pipe within tunnel, for sewer works in Richmond, Ind, have been constructed 10 ft below groundwater level; use of deep shaft well point pumps, installed in five shafts and connected to cluster of well points installed in bottom of each shaft to lower water level; use of half circle shields against caving in of sand and gravel soil; lining of shafts and tunnel with tunnel liner plates.
