Flat plate construction uses reinforced concrete slabs supported directly on columns without beams; graphical analysis of tensile stresses and safety criteria is given; it is concluded that within these criteria, lengthening of spans, omitting spandrel beams, and even providing openings in slabs next to columns, can be safely used in design.
