Acquisition of loading history data on highway bridges
Data acquisition system to monitor and digitize strains produced in highway bridges by ordinary truck traffic is described; system and associated computer program were used in pilot study, on Interstate Highway bridge near Dumfries, Va; strains were monitored during several sampling periods, and trucks were weighed and classified at nearby weighing station; low strains, less than half of calculated live-load design values, were measured.
