Reconstruction and widening of three old bridges in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by using original concrete piers and arches; in places half-century-old concrete had deteriorated to consistency of loosely cemented gravel; in other places it was sound; sound, old concrete was protected in one case by semi-liquid coating of cement-lime mortar, coated with neat cement mortar and two coats of liquid asphalt; post tensioned rods which were tied around old piers to insure piers' integrity are described.
