Proposed 10-ton weight limit was used as general unit of live loading for design of new deck slab; slab was designed to be continuous over cross beams and to have reinforcement top and bottom; 6 in. was adopted as minimum practical depth over crowns of jack arches but thickness varied from 6 in. to maximum of nearly 11 in. over cross girders along center line of main span of bridge; construction methods and cost factors.
