By use of wide array of experimental techniques, complex evaluation of various properties of bitumens has been attempted; over and above study of conventional data, most important questions tackled were rheological character, group-composition, stability of colloidal structure, and durability of bitumens; nine kinds of bitumens of various origin were used in study; survey of rheological data suggests that best materials for use in road construction are transitionary types and, to certain degree, asphalt-like bitumens; for durability tests socalled Shell method, recommended also by ASTM was checked and is recommended.
