Ultimate strength design of beams with multiple openings
Ultimate strength tests carried out on beams containing two unreinforced openings are described to illustrate various types of web post behavior, to survey methods which have been suggested for beam analysis and to recommend suitable methods for design; consideration is also given to beams with more than two holes, in particular castellated beams; attention is restricted to symmetrical beams with holes centered on mid-depth; equations that describe single hole failure, multiple hole interaction failure, and web yield, are applied to wide range of beam sections and hole sizes and shapes.
