Steel quantities for simple-frame and rigid-frame powerhouse compared
Powerhouse columns generally have longer unsupported lengths than those of commercial buildings and they account for 30% of total steel weight; results of study are presented which show that rigid framing requires 1.2% more steel than simple framing; rigid connections are more elaborate and expensive than simple connections, particularly when beams, framing into columns, differ in depth.
