Microbiological metabolism of creosote
Mixed microorganisms present on creosoted piling in Port Hueneme, Calif, harbor were found to have ability to metabolize creosote, causing loss of creosote and producing chemical changes similar to those which occur naturally to creosote in piling exposed in submerged marine environment; two of aromatic hydrocarbon compounds present in creosote, napthalene and phenanthrene, were found to be metabolized to significant extent.
