Basic questions of hydraulics of vacuum wells; after showing relations and differences between gravitational and vacuum hydraulics, potential distribution in seepage field developing around line of vacuum wells, in case of more important suction, is discussed in detail; results of investigations on particularities of movement of air in granular soil provide theoretical basis for numerical calculation of air seeping into wells; determination of flow of air and water in case of row of wells along one or both sides of working ditch provides designer with numerous points of view; results referring to drainage phenomena in inhomogeneous soils are illustrated by unfavorable cases of drainage.
