Mathematical model for water pollution control studies
Methodology is proposed for studying physical, economic, and administrative interrelationships of water-pollution control programs; mathematical model is constructed for stretch of river where bordering populations and industries use flowing water for municipal water supply; procedures are used for evaluation of characteristics to facilitate repetitive calculations; model is programmed for electronic computer; techniques are developed to obtain water pollution control plans that are optimal or nonoptimal with respect to cost; it appears that objectives for river water quality can be met at lower basin cost with various levels of sewage treatment for plants at different locations, than with uniform requirement.
