Time-series analyses of water-quality data
Basic concepts of Fourier and power spectrum analyses are presented in terms of their application to dissolved oxygen and temperature data of Delaware Estuary; Fourier analyses of temperature showed that more than 92% of total variance is accounted for by 365-day periodicity; dissolved oxygen variability remaining after removal of principal Fourier components was found to be approximately normally distributed with average standard deviation of 0.85 mg/liter; power spectrum analyses of 24-hr averaged dissolved oxygen residual seconds indicated peak in region of 30 days to 60 days and for temperature peak is dominant at 30 days.
