Methods and results of tests made during building of 640-m tunnel under Nord-Ostsee channel near Kiel are presented; deformation and settling measurements were in good agreement with predictions; measurements of external loads confirmed validity of theoretical assumptions; measurements showed also that calculated stresses in reinforced concrete sections were not reached; however, regulations did not allow using more economical dimensioning.
