Analysis of pedestrian circulation through tunnel network
Carleton University, Ottawa, Ont, started constructing pedestrian tunnels between all major buildings and parking lots about 7 yr ago; originally, standard design was used and seven buildings and one large parking lot have been constructed; rapidly increasing enrollment and university expansion have led to congestion problems in several portions of system; study for design of tunnel system and building additions considering both pedestrian circulation patterns and tunnel capacity, with added constraint of 10-min interchange time between any two points; tables and charts show results of study.
