Galvanized metal connector plates were important item in fabrication of 100-ft heavy timber trusses, used in constructing 100×200 ft clear-span building; connectors were made from galvanized sheet steel from which finger projections or teeth were punched; half-sections, 50 ft long, were built using 18-gage plates for splices; two of these sections were then spliced with heavier 14-gage plates to make full length truss; trusses were designed to withstand 40-psf loading, but designers estimate that with aid of diaphragm action, each truss will sustain loads over 100 psf; all lumber used was air-dried, 1750 psi stress rated No. 1 Dense Southern Yellow Pine.
