Turbulent schmidt number for diffusion models in the neutral boundary layer
Abstract An analytical solution of the equation describing diffusion from ground-level line and point sources in a turbulent neutral boundary layer is used to analyse some limitations of gradient diffusion type models. It is shown that the usual assumption of equality of the eddy diffusivity for mass and momentum results in too slow a rate of decay, whereas assuming a turbulent Schmidt number equal to 0.7 results in good agreement with experiments for both line and point sources.
