Study of rheological properties of lime–metakaolin slurries
Abstract Lime–kaolin residue (metakaolin) slurries were rheologically characterized by high stress flow, low strain oscillatory, and creep and relaxation tests. All lime and lime–metakaolin slurries presented flow curves with rheological behavior, which is well fitted by the Herschel–Bulckley model. In addition, they exhibited a predominantly elastic behavior, acting as a viscoelastic liquid. The presence of metakaolin resulted in less rigid and more elastic slurries, reducing the initial yield stress and viscosity of the lime-based slurries, regardless of the metakaolin content.
Highlights Yield stress and viscosity decrease when the metakaolin (MK) is added to lime paste. The Herschel-Bulkley model can describe the behavior of lime and lime-MK pastes. Lime pastes are more rigid than lime-MK pastes. When the content of MK increase in lime pastes, loss and storage modulus decrease.
