Long-term effects of oil dispersants on intertidal benthic invertebrates
II. Growth of the barnacle Epopella plicata (gray) following dispersant application to a shore
The oil dispersants Shell SD UTX and BP1100 WD, when applied to field populations of barnacles at recommended concentrations (neat and 100 000 ml m−3, respectively) and at a rate of 0.61 m−2, failed to exhibit any growth-inhibiting characteristics in Epopella plicata monitored for 253 days.
