The reduction of indoor formaldehyde gas and that emanating from urea formaldehyde foam insulation (UFFI)
Abstract It is shown that the addition of ammonia to urea formaldehyde foam insulation (UFFI) can reduce the release of formaldehyde from the foam. Other amines are also effective, indicating that the residual acid may be an important cause of the UFFI decomposition. Measurements of pH slurries of the foam confirm this. By circulating indoor air through filters treated with polymeric amines, it is possible to reduce the formaldehyde level in homes.
