Influence of sorbed fluids on compressive strength of cement paste
AbstractHCP cylinders made with water/cement ratios = 0.3 and 0.5 were vacuum dried at 100°C before saturation in a range of polar liquids and non-polar Cyclohexane. Compressive strength varied from 1 to 2.3 times the water-saturated strengths and was ordered with increase in polarity. Maximum strength and minimum sorption was obtained with cyclohexane having the largest molecule. The weakening effect of water was associated with its capacity to penetrate regions inaccessible to the other fluids.
